TRAVERSE CITY — Marcella "Marcie" Frances Belanger, 77, of Traverse City, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 18, 2015. She died at Munson Hospice House after a long battle with cancer.
Marcella was born Feb. 27, 1938 in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, to her parents, Gilbert Elton and Mary (Thompson) Fidler, of West Virginia. She had one brother, Gilbert Elton Fidler Jr., of Arizona, and two living sisters, Mary Elizabeth Fidler Santomo and Rhoda Karen Fidler Palastro, of Pennsylvania.
Marcella met her husband, Linus Germaine Belanger, in Washington, D.C. They married in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Oct. 11, 1958, had five children and celebrated 57 years of marriage together.
Marcella, known as Marcie for many years, grew to prefer her birth name as she came to know that it means warrior. She was a true warrior for her faith and the matriarch of her Christian church. She enjoyed modern Christian music and Bible study, baking and cooking for her family and making new friends. Marcella made new friends wherever she went.
She is survived by her husband, Linus; and her five children, Christine Ann Belanger Murphy, Jeffery Lenard Belanger, Mary Alice Belanger Calloway, Phillip Wayne Belanger and Karen Deloris Belanger Yockey; her four granddaughters; four grandsons; two great-grandsons; her brother and two sisters; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a multitude of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Martin James Calloway; a sister, Deloris Joan Fidler; father-in-law, Germaine Joseph Belanger; and her mother-in-law, Dorothy Alice Denoyer Belanger.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A funeral service will he held at 11 a.m., with visitation from 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Fresh Wind Christian Community Church, 18201 Honor Highway, Interlochen.
Memorial contributions in Marcie's name may be sent to Fresh Wind Christian Community Church "New Covenant Christian Academy."
