Marcia Ellen Wittig, 62, of Williamsburg, passed away April 29, 2015 at home surrounded by family. Born to the late Raymond Philp Smith and Barbara Lillian Smith (Moore) November 1, 1952 in Detroit Michigan. Beloved wife of Gary Wittig, devoted mother to Michelle (Jon) Lawrence and Gary Russell Wittig, adored sister of Linda Goodpaster, Paula Hyatt, and Gary Smith, loving grandmother of Megan Louise Lawrence and John Andrew Lawrence.
Marcia held a BA in Family Life Education and an MA in Organizational Management from Spring Arbor University. She put these degrees to use with many organizations, including Goodwill Industries, where she was the Director of Workforce Development and the Founding Director of the Academy of Entrepreneurial Studies. Marcia loved life and loved new challenges, prompting her to begin several businesses including Smith-Wittig Marketing, Kids On Board, and her most recent venture, with son Gary, Square One Foods.
Entrepreneur, artist, collector of rocks on the beach, admirer of beautiful things, Marcia embraced life and the simplest of pleasures. She was happiest tending her garden, painting with her sister, and spending time on the beach with friends and family. Always ready with an encouraging word, Marcia's true calling was giving of herself to those around her. When you were with Marcia, she helped you to see and believe the very best parts of yourself. This was her gift—one she gave generously!
Marcia's life will be celebrated Saturday, May 2 at Bay Pointe Community Church, 6880 Secor Road in Traverse City, with a visitation from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm and a memorial service at 1:00 pm, followed by a dessert reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Marcia by donating your time or monetary gift to your favorite church or charity. Please visit
