TRAVERSE CITY – Margaret Brechin Dodd, 72, died on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Munson Medical Center.

Margaret was born on September 3, 1942 in Rutherglen, Scotland, to the late David and Christina (Girdwood-Gilchrist) Peter.

Margaret left Scotland in 1964 and traveled around the world before settling in Western Canada for many years. While in Canada, she was employed as a teacher and volunteered at local radio stations. Margaret moved to the Traverse City area in 1977, where as a "recovering politician" she became the first female elected mayor of Traverse City. She volunteered for 9 years on the Tuesday am jazz radio show on WNMC and the weekly FOX radio show with Vic McCarty as their "token liberal"

Surviving Margaret are her daughter, Joanna Dodd-Thornton, granddaughter, Fiona Dodd-Thornton, and her son, Mark Dodd.

A memorial service will be held for Margaret at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Saturday, June 20, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation 1 hour prior.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Roscoe Animal Retreat of Roscoe, Illinois in Margaret's name.
