Margaret Farwell Kidd
TRAVERSE CITY – Margaret Farwell Kidd (Babe), age 106, died on September 6, 2017 in Traverse City, MI. She was born October 18, 1910 in St Louis, MO., the youngest of five (5) children. After marrying Wesley E. Kidd she moved to Glen Ellyn, IL in 1933, where she resided until 1970. Subsequently, they moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. After her husband died in 1993, she continued to live in Florida until 2006, when she moved up North to live nearer to her children.
Margaret is survived by a son, Wesley E. Kidd II (Alice, d.'14); a son, Lawrence A. Kidd (Prudence, d.'16) of Traverse City, MI., a daughter, Arlene Haynes (Frank) of Kenilworth, IL., eight grandchildren: Julie Cook (Mark) of Prairie Village, KS., Marilee Gerdes (Mike) of Brownsburg, IN., Wesley E. Kidd III (Amy) of Charlottesville, VA., Jenny Isenberg (Gerald) of Shaker Heights, OH., Betsy Kidd of Traverse City, MI., Margaret Beeler (Corey) of Traverse City, MI., Elizabeth Klein (Mike) of Rochester, MN., Jonathan Haynes of Winnetka, IL.; thirteen great grandchildren: Ian, Johanna, Sarah, Ruby, Tanner, Ryan, Jordan, Cameron, Zack, Ashley, Alexis, Lucas and Lauren.
The Farwell family in Chicago lost their father early so all of the 5 kids had to adopt a trade in high school to combine their salaries during the depression. At fifteen, she was the full time secretary for the Sears catalog. The Farwell kids were: Cy, Flay, Slim, Doll (she really was one), and Babe (Margaret). During WWII, husband Wes was at sea from 1943 – 1946. She raised three kids on 50+ dollars/month.
She was a favorite of those residents and staff at Bay Ridge assisted living and Willow Cottage (GT Pavilions). Only today and tomorrow were of importance to Margaret. "Keep It Moving" was her motto. The staff at Bay Ride and Willow and Munson were terrific. Dr. Tom Nussdorfer was always by her side. Margaret's family thanks you all.
A memorial service for Margaret will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 3:00 pm with a visitation from 2:00 – 3:00 pm. Rev. Kathy Snedeker will officiate.
