Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Jane (Fisher) Nichols, 84, of Traverse City passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Grand Traverse Pavilions surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 11, 1933 in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late James and Sarah Fisher. On June 28, 1958, Peggy married the love of her life, Robert "Pete" Nichols of Detroit, Michigan. They were married almost 47 years, until his death on June 12, 2005.

Peggy was a devoted sports fan of MSU sports and all the Detroit pro teams. Every morning she started the day the same: reading the Detroit free press (making sure to never skip the crossword puzzle section) while drinking her favorite blend of coffee. As an English major, she thoroughly enjoyed reading, and appreciated quality literature and grammar, never ceasing to correct the incorrect. As a young couple, Peggy and Pete enjoyed playing Bridge, Euchre, golfing, going out dancing, but most of all enjoying the company of their crazy but loving family.

Peggy is survived by her four loving children; Jim (Karen) Nichols, Liz (Rick) Sievers, Julie (David) Kwasny and Bob (Christine) Nichols, her eight grandchildren; Maggie (Jared), Melissa, Ryan, Sara, Jenna, Jonathon, Austin and Janae. Also surviving is her sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Gilfillan as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial honoring Margaret will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visiting one hour prior, on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1025 S. Union St., Traverse City, MI 49684. Rev. Fr. Kenneth Stachnik will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a donation to the Cherry Wing, c/o Grand Traverse Pavilions, 1000 Pavilions Circle, Traverse City, Michigan 49684. We are so grateful for the loving staff of the Grand Traverse Pavilions, Cherry Wing, who were so tentative to Peggy and treated her like family. They are such amazing people and did everything they could to make her as comfortable as possible. There are not enough words to thank them enough for all of their work and much love goes to all the staff in Cherry Wing.
