Margaret Elaine Snowday, affectionately known as Peggy, passed peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026.
Her adventurous spirit, generous and empathetic heart, and magnetic personality are irreplaceable in the lives of her family and friends. She skied the highest mountains, dove into the deepest oceans, rode horses, bikes, and motorcycles, all the while deeply loving and supporting those fortunate to be in her life. She was strongly motivated to help and serve others, including saving two lives with CPR, making significant contributions as a nurse, smoking cessation expert, and Board Member of the American Cancer Society, Grand Traverse and Child & Family Services of Northwestern Michigan.
Peggy was born with her twin brother, Warner Leslie (Whitey) to parents Warner & Catherine (Betty) Moore and sister, Lynne on December 22, 1941 in Indiana, PA, following the attack on Pearl Harbor. She grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and Birmingham, MI, graduating from Birmingham Seaholm High School in 1960.
Peggy graduated as an RN in 1965 from the Grace Hospital School of Nursing, Mercy College, passing her boards in the first sitting. She became Head Nurse in Pediatrics at Grace Hospital in Detroit, caring for children throughout her career, including serving as the only pediatric clinical staff member on duty during the Detroit riots. Peggy also served as a summer Camp Nurse in Wisconsin for two years.
After moving to Northern Michigan, with husband Terry and son H.T., she became an avid outdoors enthusiast, enjoying time hunting, riding and raising horses, and time with beloved friends in Sparr, MI. She became an avid skier, enjoying many Northern Michigan ski areas and even serving as a member of Ski Patrol.
Peggy served in roles as Director of Public Education and President of the American Cancer Society in Northern Michigan from 1972-1980. She created and facilitated smoking cessation classes for 20 years, including conducting smoking cessation programs in Northern Michigan schools.
Peggy owned and operated her own spa / hot tub business (Hot Spring Spa of Northern Michigan) from the late 1980s throughout the 1990s and was well known for her tireless work ethic and incredible commitment to customer service. She received the Dealer of the Year award, worldwide in 1994, from Watkins Manufacturing.
Peggy later graduated from The Atwood Institute of hypnotherapy in 1996, enhancing her skills in smoking cessation.
Peggy was a skilled artist, a gift she fully cultivated later in life, creating a notable body of work in watercolor of nature subjects. She also wrote, illustrated, and published a children’s book (Rubby Eyes, Sleepy Time). She even joined her family on stage, performing in the Old Town Playhouse production of The Music Man.
Peggy found joy in travel and adventure, most recently alongside her partner, Jim Chereskin. For more than ten years, they shared trips, laughter, and new experiences, as well as a journey in faith and spirituality.
She was fiercely proud of her family, particularly her grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to enthusiastically support, encourage and attend performances and sports events.
Peggy is survived by her son, H.T. (Lauren) Snowday; grandchildren, Hallie, Katie, and Jack; sister, Lynne (James) Kweder; partner Jim Chereskin, second husband Loren Riley, nephew Blair Alegant (and family), as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Warner & Catherine (Betty) Moore, twin brother, Warner “Whitey” Moore, first husband Hall Terry Snowday Jr., and nephew Adam Koenig.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, July 21st, 2026, at 5pm, Creekside Community Church, 3686 S. Airport Rd W, Traverse City, MI. There will be a visitation prior, starting at 4pm. Please join family and friends for a reception following.
