Obituary

Margarete Mary Miller, 95 of Cedar, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family.

Margarete was born on January 25, 1927 to the late Karl and Marie (Schafer) Happel in Watzenborn-Steinberg, Germany. She met and fell in love with John Miller while he was stationed in Germany after WWII. They were married on August 18, 1948 in Germany.

Margarete was a lifelong parishioner at Holy Rosary Church where she was active in many activities over the years. She encouraged all her children to get a Catholic education at Holy Rosary School. Later in life she supported her grandchildren in their Catholic education and in 4H activities. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, bird-watching, baking and cooking-- she never let a guest leave hungry. She tended to her flower garden and yard up until just three years ago. Molly, the family dog, brought her great joy and comfort.

Fondly, she will be remembered for her unwavering faith in God and her enduring love for her family.

She is survived by her children: John Michael (JoAnn) Miller of Kilgore, TX, Leonard Charles Miller of Cedar, MI, Anthony Peter Miller of Traverse City, MI, Robert Paul (Judi) Miller of Cedar, MI, Edward Lee (Dorothy) Miller of Cedar, MI, Paul Stephan (Linda) Miller of Stafford, VA, Mary Margaret Miller and Lori Anne Priest, both of Cedar, MI; 18 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, her brother Werner Happel in Germany and many other loving family members and friends.

Margarete is preceded in death by her parents, her husband John in 1997, two of her children, Carl (age 19) and David who died at 4 months, her sisters Ottilie and Isolde and brothers Walter, Helmut, and Gerhard.

Visitation will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Tuesday July 12, 2022 from 4-7pm with a Rosary prayed at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 11am with a visitation held one hour prior, also at the Church. Burial will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Isadore next to her husband John. Memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
