Traverse City-Margery Noreen McGhan, 88, a long time resident of Traverse City, died Monday evening, April 1, 2013, at her home, comforted by her loving family.
Born March 20, 1925, in Charlevoix, she was the daughter of the late William and Ruth (Whitney) Hair. On September 21, 1946, in Charlevoix she married Marion J "Bub" McGhan, who preceded her in death in 1997.
Margery will be remembered for her many interests and leisure pursuits, such as reading her favorite novel on her back deck, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, knitting, playing golf, square dancing, world travel and the Detroit Tigers. How ironic that she would die on opening day for the Tigers. Family get together's were always very special for Marge. She will be truly missed by many.
She was a kind and committed mother to her five children, Nancy (Ken McGowan) McGhan of Fife Lake, Bruce McGhan of Traverse City, Sue (Jon) Wyckoff of Traverse City, Mark (Natalie) McGhan of Traverse City and Roger (Patty) McGhan of Cadillac; 14 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren plus two on the way; siblings, Marilyn (Dave) Miller of Charlevoix, Bill (Clarice) Hair of Byron Center, Nancy "Lynn" (Cal) Lamoreaux of Charlevoix; and brother-in-law, Rex McGhan of Hazel Park; along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Gary L. McGhan and a sister, Marvel Maison.
The McGhan family will greet friends at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday, April 8, 2013, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Memorial services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Devon Herrell will officiate.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix at a later date.
For those planning an expression of sympathy, Marge has requested donations to Meals on Wheels or the Humane Society of Missaukee County. Envelopes may be obtained at the funeral home.
