Margie was born in Detroit, MI to John Chester Hallett and Anna Mae (MacLean) Hallett. She was the fifth born child and first daughter of eleven children.

Margie grew up in Omena, MI and married Richard I. Zimmerman with whom she had five children. In 1980, she and her husband Lawrence Meachum moved the family to Homer, Alaska. There they took in all Alaska had to offer. Margie worked as a bookkeeper for Maritime Helicopters which she loved.

Margie was known for her open-door, loving personality and would welcome all for a beautiful home cooked meal including her amazing pies, as long as you left your hat at the door! She hosted many get-togethers and card games for friends and family. Margie also loved the great outdoors enjoying long walks, cross country skiing, fishing and camping.

After moving back to Omena, MI she worked and retired from Kal Excavating as a bookkeeper. Margie spent her golden years in Omena and Traverse City enjoying life with friends, family and her longtime dear friend, Larry Franchek.
