Maria Leanne Bremmeyr

Maria Leanne Bremmeyr, 53 of Traverse City passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Munson Hospice House after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Maria was born on July 14, 1961 in Petoskey, Michigan to Albert and Peggy Bremmeyr. Maria graduated from college in 1985 earning her Bachelor's Degree from Central Michigan University. She moved to Traverse City from Petoskey in 1994, while living in the area Maria was a teacher and the Director of the Headstart Program for the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. She loved being an educator and was involved with youth programs including the Michigan Association for Education of Young Children. Maria lived a very faith filled life. She was a member of Faith Reformed Church and very active with Emmaus and Chrysalis. She loved music and belief everyone had a wonderful singing voice. She always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and will be missed by all who know her.

Maria is survived by her parents; Albert and Peggy Bremmeyr; a brother, Mark (Shelly) Bremmeyr and a sister, Monica (Phillip) Smelt. Also surviving are niece and nephews; Devin Bremmeyr, Colin Bremmeyr, Corbin Bremmeyr and Julia Smelt.

Friends are welcome to visit with Maria's family a Friday, September 12, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City.

A memorial service honoring Maria will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Faith Reformed Church, 1139 E. Front St., Traverse City, MI 49686 with visiting one hour prior. Rev. Les Wiseman will officiate.
