Mariam Alexanian Duckwall

Mariam Alexanian Duckwall, 91 died Monday, October 09, 2017 at Munson Medical Center.

She was born at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, to the late Mildred and Joseph H. Alexanian.

Mariam received her B.A. Degree from the University of Wisconsin and her Master's
Degree from Michigan State University. She was active in theatre. In 1950 she was one of 10 in the country to be awarded a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England. She decided not to accept it when she married Ralph W. Duckwall.

Mariam taught in the Theatre Department and retired as a professor. She was active in the Lansing Civic Players Guild. In 1975 she received a Best Actress Award from the C.C.P. for her portrayal of Linda in "The Death of a Salesman." Her only professional work was in California when she played Bananas in "The House of Blue Leaves."

In 2006, six years after Ralph died, she decided to move to Traverse City where she continued to spend summers at Dunn's Farm on Glen Lake.

Surviving Mariam is her son Joe (Sara) Alexanian II; grandson Joseph "Joey" H. Alexanian III.

Mariam is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph and daughter Lynn.
