Marie Elizabeth Shugart

TRAVERSE CITY - Marie Elizabeth Shugart peacefully passed away March 5th after 89 years of joy and happiness. A lifelong resident of Traverse City, Michigan, and parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, Marie was the daughter of Bernice and Adam Pleva of Cedar and Traverse City. Marie was married to Ken Shugart for 59 years until his passing in 2007, they had six boys with six wonderful daughters in-law: Duane and Chris, Larry and Collette, Bruce and Jan, Jim and Gaela, Scott and Dena, and Roger and Liz, who brought five grand children, Matt, Tommy, Teddy, Nate, and Adam, and two great grand children, Simon and Mason, into her life. Marie has three siblings, Maxine Halverson (George), Lorraine Spencer (Ken) and Don Pleva and good friend Nancy. Over the past years, Marie remained social and shared her deep friendship with Al Kwolek. Marie also worked as an aid at Norris Elementary School. Marie loved living on West Bay and summering on Lake Leelanau while baking, cooking, gardening, and cultivating extraordinary flowers, especially roses. Her support, positive attitude, and her smile will be missed by all who knew her. On July 18, 2019, A Memorial Mass will be held at 8:15 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City.
