Traverse City - Marilyn Jane Amidon, 92, of Traverse City, died Monday, January 28, 2019, at Munson Medical Center. She was born in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Ralph and Gladys (Roe) Brown on January 18, 1927. Her growing up years were spent in Michigan's Upper Peninsula town of L'Anse and later in Reed City. She had many fond memories of ice skating on the outdoor rink in the UP that was lit at night and music was played. She graduated from Central Michigan University and earned her nursing degree from Butterworth School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Class of 1950. While working at the Traverse City State Hospital, she met nurse attendant Arthur Amidon and they were married in Reed City on January 1, 1955 and enjoyed 60 years of marriage.

Marilyn was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading, observing the wildlife in her backyard and watching football on TV.

Marilyn is survived by her three daughters, Barbara (Jim) Valesano and Nancy Amidon both of Traverse City, Diane (Danny) Reed of Spencerville, IN, her step-daughter Yvonne Short and family of Florida; grandchildren, Michael, Maxine, Ava and Vince Valesano and Keely Reed; her special sister-in-law, Tina Wagner and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three brothers, Richard, George and Ralph Brown.

The Funeral Service for Marilyn will begin at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 9 at Central United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Long Lake.
