Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY - Marilyn (Lyn) Cavanaugh, 88, passed away January 4, 2019 at Grand Traverse Pavilions after a long struggle with Alzheimer's.
Lyn was born September 23, 1930 in Warehouse Point, Connecticut to the late Allen and Inez (Hancock) Pascoe. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Luke's Hospital in New York City in 1949. It was while at nursing school that she met the love of her life, James (Jim) Cavanaugh. They were married on February 5, 1953.
She grew up on the family farm in Warehouse Point and always considered herself a farmer. Gardening was her great passion in life and she could usually be found tending to her flowers during the summer months. Her beautiful English cottage style garden nearly covered the entire back yard and was dotted with antique statuary and other unique decorations.
She also retained her love for animals, the household always had at least two cats in residence.
Jim and Lyn both loved antiques and were active in the Traverse City Antiques Club. They never opened a shop but for many years they had booths at various antique shows and markets around the state. They would scour the yard sales in the Traverse City area looking for treasure and Lyn always referred to this as 'sale-ing around the bay'. Lyn adored old linens and quilts, she could never have too many.
Lyn loved children and worked as a nurse for many years at Munson Hospitals' pediatric unit. After her retirement she volunteered in the community and worked at the Salvation Army store for a number of years.
Family was very important to Lyn. She loved visiting her two sisters and always looked forward to trips to Vermont to spend time with her grandchildren.
Lyn is survived by sister Susan Dunsford, son Allen (Carol) Cavanaugh and grandchildren Katie Cavanaugh and Colin Cavanaugh.
She was predeceased by husband James in 2015 and Sister Laurie May in 2018.
We would like to thank everyone at Pavilions for the wonderful care that they have provided our family for the past six years.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org/gmc/donate
