Marilyn Louise Erickson, 87, of Traverse City, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.

Marilyn was born on June 10, 1935 in Manistee, Michigan, to the late Howard and Lenna (Drury) Cook. The Cook family lived throughout the United States during Howard's career in the U.S. Forest Service. Marilyn graduated from Michigan State University, earning a B.A. in Elementary Education in 1957.

As a career military spouse, Marilyn lived in such far-ranging places as Frankfurt, Germany and Fort Sheridan, Illinois. In 1974 her family relocated to Traverse City. While raising her children, she was a long-time employee of Traverse City Public Schools where she worked as the administrative assistant for Facilities and Maintenance. She was a devoted, active member of Asbury United Methodist Church (now Traverse Bay United Methodist Church). Throughout her life, Marilyn loved to travel with her family and friends. She enjoyed regular trips to England, Ireland, and Germany, and took exciting trips to the Holy Land and to Australia. At home, Marilyn was an expert knitter, voracious reader, and active community member. She enjoyed classical music, live theater, and spending time with a large circle of friends. Her grandchildren brought her great joy.

She is survived by her children, Robert Erickson, also of Traverse City, and Rosemary Erickson (William) Johnsen of Grand Rapids; her grandchildren, Lenna Drury Johnsen of Brooklyn, New York and Arnold Erickson Johnsen, of Minneapolis; her younger brother Richard (Naomi) Cook and their children Chris Cook and Adrienne (Jim) Jones, all of Evansville, Indiana; and many other loving family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11am at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Saturday, June 10, 2023 with a visitation held one hour prior. Burial at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
