Marilyn Joan Riggs, 92, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully and immersed in love on Friday October 29, 2021 at Bay Ridge Assisted Living Center.

Marilyn was born in Suttons Bay, Michigan on December 26, 1928, to the late Albion and Emma (Kolarik) Solem. She graduated from Suttons Bay Agricultural School in 1947.

She devotedly raised her four sons and worked hard to provide for them. She worked at Lincoln Devlin and Kilcher Certified Public Accountants, Kmart, AT&T and many other jobs until she took on her favorite job being a nanny. Caring for children was the highlight of her career.

In Marilyn's spare time she enjoyed gardening and playing shuffleboard at the senior center. She also enjoyed traveling and most of all being with her family and grand kids.

Surviving Marilyn are her sons, Gordon (Sharon) Riggs, Gregory (Kathy) Riggs, Brian (Jill Little) Riggs; six grandchildren; Laurie Whitmore, Amy Running, Melissa Howard, Susan Riggs, David Riggs, and Mason Riggs. Also surviving are 5 great- grandchildren, and sister's Ethel (William) Buchan, and Caroline (Raymond) Herman and her beloved dog Cuddles.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Maurice, James, Lee Solem and sons, infant baby and Gary Riggs.

In celebration of Marilyn's life Funeral services and will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 3:00 pm with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery at a later time.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bay Ridge Assisted Living, Hospice of Michigan and Comfort Keepers for their excellent care.
