Obituary

Marilyn Jeannine Schoonover, 80, of Traverse City passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 at the Munson Hospice House.

Marilyn was born May 31, 1937 to Clyde and Marguerite (McQuistion) Engstrom in LeRoy, MI. Marilyn's extracurricular high school activities included playing piano and French horn in the school band, cheerleading, and baton twirling. Following high school, Marilyn attended Central Michigan College in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and earned her degree in home economics. She married Robert DeVere Schoonover (Saginaw, Michigan) on November 7, 1959 in Tustin, MI.

She worked in retail sales for many years in Traverse City. She enjoyed working in women's fashion for Milliken's, Cochran's, Hudson's and Prange's. She also was a bank teller for both NBT and NBD banks.

After raising her family, Marilyn returned to school at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. She studied Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management.

Marilyn and her husband were passionate about the mission field and sharing their love of the gospel of Jesus. They travelled to Barbados and extensively in the Philippines where they forged great relationships with many families.

Marilyn is survived by her husband of 58 years Robert Schoonover, sons Hans (Kirstin) Schoonover, Kelly (Kristen) Schoonover and Bob (Betsy) Schoonover; brother Alan Engstrom; and 14 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Per the request of the family cremation has taken place. A memorial open house will be held on August 4, 2018. Friends and family are invited to stop by, reminisce, and enjoy some food. The open house will be held from Noon to 5pm at the home of Kelly and Kristen Schoonover; 7641 Sayler Rd., Williamsburg, Michigan 49690.
