Marion (Bugai) Tanner
April 18, 1925 - April 17, 2013

Maple City - Marion Irene Tanner, on the eve of her 88th birthday, was given the grace of a peaceful and holy death at home with her cousin, Rita. As the rosary was being prayed at her bedside, Marion faded away into eternal life.
Marion, herself a strikingly beautiful and amazingly talented woman, deeply appreciated and admired her husband, Paul. Paul and Marion were married in Detroit on September 7, 1946 and parted on the day of Paul's death, September 6, 1992, one day short of their 46th wedding anniversary and, as with her birthday, an anniversary celebrated in eternity. "But as it is written. 'Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.' " (1Corinthians 2:9,KJV)
Marion was an artist with a sewing machine. She turned her highly polished skills into a home business specializing in monograming. Proverbs 31 comes to mind: "The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, … She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands… She preceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple…" Tastefully modest and elegantly attractive, Marion was all about that which is true, good, and beautiful, beginning with her own person.
After Paul's death, Marion continued living for the next 20 years in their Farmington Hills home. As Marion's health began to deteriorate, Marion made arrangements to live with her cousin, Rita (Loren) Wilson on the family farm near Maple City.
In life and in death Marion was surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses (Hebrews 12).
Marion's predeceased include: her husband, Paul Frederick Tanner (b. Nov, 5, 1919 - d. Sept. 6, 1992); her father, Stanley Bugai (b. May, 1895 in Poland - d. Nov. 16, 1955); her mother, Anastasia (Dezelski) Bugai (b. April 4, 1898 - d. Feb. 25, 2001 at age 103).
On her mother's side: Grandparents, Adam and Catherine (Mikowski) Dezelski.
Uncles: Joseph (Marie) Dezell, Edward Dezelski, Raymund Dziedzielski (1908-1923), Leon (Sophia) Dezelski, Richard (Dorothy) Dezelski, Clarence (Mildred) Dezelski, and in either infancy or childhood: John (2 mo.), Charles (13 mo.), Alek (2 yrs), and Lawrence (5 yrs.).
Aunts, Martha (Bertrand "Bert") Richardson and Anna (Steven) Bugai. (Uncle Steve and Aunt Anna Bugai were also Marion's godparents in Baptism.)
On her father's side: Uncles: Joseph (Louise) Bugai, Kasmer (Rose) Bugai,
Walter (Nettie) Bugai, Albert(Marie) Bugai. Aunt: Frances (Joseph) Miller. Grandparents: Frank (1865-1945) and Johanna Gershlinski/Gersh (1869-1900) Bugai. In 1912, Frank Bugai married Magdelene (Strzyewski) Kadzban (1881-1971), the widow of Joseph Kadzban (1876-1910). Magdelene's children by her first marriage: Leonard, Adeline, Bernadine and Edwin "Ed" (Leona Peplinski) Kasben (1909-2011). Frank and Madelene's children: Leslie (Roxie) Bugai, Alois (Audrey Couturier) Bugai, Claude (Elaine) Bugai, Henry (Mary Courturier) Bugai, & Wanda (Francis "Hunce") Martineau (1915- ).
Of Interest: Steven Bugai (1902-1979), Marion's godfather and uncle by marriage to her Aunt Anna (1902-1990), was also a first cousin to Marion's father, Stanley Bugai. Frank Bugai, Marion's grandfather, and Martin (Anna) Bugai, Steven's father, were brothers. So, first cousins, Stanley Bugai and Steven Bugai, married sisters, Anastasia Dezelski and Anna Dezelski. Other children of Martin (Anna Fleis) Bugai: Steff (Ethel) Bugai, Esther (Fred) Balesh, Mary Funaro, Julius (Helen) Bugai, and Gordon (Ardith) Bugai.
Predeceased cousins include: Patricia Bugai; Elsie (Ed) Pieri; Father Joseph Anthony Miller CSB (1927-2005), Ordained June 29, 1954; Sister Marie Eugenia Mikowski CSSF; and Sister Mary Juliette Mikowski CSSF.
On her husband's side: Father-in-law, Leslie Orval Tanner (1891-1960); Mother-in-law, Edith Mertilla (Shilts) Tanner (1890-1957); brothers-in-law, Llloyd (Bessie) Tanner and Leslie (Jeanne) Tanner; sisters-in-law, Mable (Dean) Folsom and Otha (Ferd) Wieferich; nephew, Gary Lee Tanner.
Marion is survived by her brother, Robert (Fay Cook) Bugai; nieces: Nancy (Glen) Palmer and Sally Bugai; numerous cousins including: Rita (Loren) Wilson, Steven (Mary) Dezelski, Leonard (Anne) Dezelski, Gerald "Jerry" (Pat) Bugai , Helen Mikowksi, Steven (MaryLou) Mikowski, and Marlene (Ed) Hahnenberg. On her husbands side: nieces and nephews: Jan Dee (David) Vonins, Carol (Meryl Wayne) Cotton, Susan Wieferich, Jimmy (Mary) Wieferich, Shirley (Carroll) Grover, Betty (David) Graham, Marsha (Doug) Llippert, Michael (Joyce) Tanner. Special friends: William "Bill" Sherwood, Tom & Maria Alexandris, Butch & Alice Karkutt, Vi (Ed) Dobzyniak. Care-givers: Joey Christensen, Elizabeth Graff, Munson Health Care & Hospice Staff.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 21, 2013 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Rita-St. Joseph Catholic Church, 8707 S. Hill Rd., in Maple City, with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Donald Libby at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22 at St. Rita-St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Memorials may be in the form of Masses for Marion or donations directed in Marion's honor to St, Rita-St. Joseph Cathoic Church in Maple City or to the Carmelite Monastery in Traverse City.
