Marion Ellen Ghering GTB Tribal Elder, died September 13, 2016 in Traverse City.
Marion was born October 29, 1940 at the Traverse City county hospital and lived in Elk Rapids graduating from high school in 1958. She was a gifted artist and started working at Burwood hand painting whatever came down her line, and continued to draw and paint for much of her life. Marion met the love of her life Thomas Ghering in the fall of 1961 and they married December 12, 1964. Soon after she changed careers and worked at the State hospital for 20 years until they closed the institution down. She then worked at Empire/Huntington bank, and then for the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians as a cashier at Leelanau Sands and Turtle Creek Casino's.
She is preceded in death by her mother Shirley Mae (Shomin) Crampton, father Robert J. Crampton, and brother John.
Survived by loving husband Thomas Ghering, sisters Janice (Jensen), Emily (Goodwin), brother Paul, children Perry, Jackie, Tina, Dana, grandchildren Nathaniel & Justin, great grandchildren Trenton, Alexzander, Noah, Autumn &Sebastian.
Memorial services were held September 17th at 2pm at the Greensky Hill United Methodist Church. Pastors Sam McClellan, Tom John, and John David Mays officiated. Marion's final resting place will be the Greensky HIll Cemetery.
