Marion Phyllis Nurnberger of Traverse City, Michigan, age 103, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022. Marion was born on April 27, 1919, to Harry "Spin" and Mildred Johnson. She was a 1936 graduate of Manistee High School and for a brief period of time, worked for Montgomery Ward as a catalog order clerk.
Marion married Lewis L. Nurnberger on August 20, 1939. He was employed by Consumers Energy which had them transferred to Traverse City in 1956, and after eleven years, they were transferred to Jackson, Michigan. Marion and Lewis eventually moved back to Traverse City in 2009 to be closer to her son, grandchildren, and great-ones. She loved being back in Traverse City. They would also spend six months every year at their home in Florida until 2003.
As a homemaker, she enjoyed every moment. She loved always being there when her children came home from school. Marion loved to knit afghans, and enjoyed working with needlepoint, ceramics, and macrame too. She was a very talented cook and loved making cookies and brownies for friends and family. Her Christmas time Chex-Mix and famous pistachio pineapple salad were something to be desired all year-round. Marion liked working on jigsaw puzzles and loved a good game of BINGO!
Marion was preceded in death by her husband Lewis L. Nurnberger and daughter Pamela Kay.
Marion is survived by her son, James Nurnberger; five grandchildren, Greg (Natalie) McManemy, Michelle (Steve) Brett, Todd (Elizabeth) Nurnberger, Heather (Ryan) Watson, and Rebecca (Trever) Maddox-Danes; nine great grandchildren, Tylus, Mikayla, Sloane, Megan, Allison, Grace, Landon, Henry, and Madeline; four step-great grandchildren, Alex, Nicole, Zack, and Hunter; and one great-great granddaughter Leah.
The funeral service for Marion will be officiated by Pastor Tim Manzer at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2022, at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City, MI 49684. Relatives and friends may call on the family during a time of visitation one hour prior to the service.
