Maris Dorothy Kramer

June 17, 1935 — March 3, 2024

Maris Kramer, 88 of Interlochen, a dedicated nurse and beloved member of her community passed away peacefully on March 3, 2024. Maris was born on June 17, 1935 to Conrad and Cecille (Klaas) Ruoff in Berkley, MI. On November 26, 1964 Maris married James Kramer at Our Lady of La Salette in Berkley, MI. Her commitment to helping others and the love of the medical field she attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI and graduated in 1960 with her LPN license and a specialized degree in psychology. Maris worked at various positions in the medical field starting with working in an OB/GYN office in Royal Oak.
In 1971, Maris and her husband Jim moved to Traverse City. She then began her job at Medical Care, nursing to the needs of the elderly patients. In 1976 she started her long career at Emergency Consultants, Inc starting in the coding department and working her way up to work under Dr. James Johnson as an Executive Assistant to the President until her retirement in 2001.
Maris developed a deep love for the outdoors from a young age, finding solace and strength in nature's embrace. Fishing, rock hunting, morel mushroom picking to spending hours in her flower garden. Some of her favorite flowers being begonias and geranium plants. She also loved spending time at the barn with her kids and they're horse Coy. Maris became an avid painter whose artistic talent was enjoyed by many people.
She cherished special times with family and always looked forward to big family get togethers.
Maris is preceded in death by her parents. Brothers James, Gerald, Conrad (Betty) and Norman Ruoff. Sisters Rosemary, Ruth, and Naureen Ruoff.
Maris is survived by her children Catherine (Jim) Hammond of Pellston and Curt (Kim) Kramer of Buckley. Her grandchildren Aaron Hammond and Courtney (Travis) Dixon and one great grandchild Xanion. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Cubby Bear and Care Bear who brought her endless companionship and joy.
The family would like to thank Grand Traverse Commission on Aging, Meals on Wheels and PACE for all the hard work and caring, whose help was instrumental in allowing her to stay in her beloved home for as long as possible.
A Celebration of Life funeral mass will take place Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Church. Visitation at 10 am , mass at 11 am followed by Christian burial and luncheon. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Maris's honor to St. Mary's of Hannah Church or St. Mary's School, 2912 West M-113 Kingsley, MI 49649
The family has entrusted arrangements by Reynold's Jonkoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
