Marjorie Corden died at the age of 99 on January 16, 2026, in Traverse City, Michigan. Marjorie was born in Corunna, Michigan, on May 21, 1926. She graduated from Corunna High School in 1943. She was a majorette for the Corunna band for three years. During WWII, she was not a riveter, but she did build carburetors for a wartime manufacturer. When the war ended, she worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Co. as a telephone operator and, before she retired, as Chief Operator. She met her husband, Arthur Corden, there, and they were married for more than 60 years when he died in 2012.

She was an extraordinary grandmother who not only baked cookies, but also took each of her girls on special trips to Alaska, Hawaii, Nova Scotia, and the United Kingdom. She was always ready for fun times with crazy hats or playing games.

She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Winans, five granddaughters, Lisa (Randy) Plamondon, Wendy (Kevin) McBride, Natalie (Dan) King, Kimberly (Luke) Reynolds, and Marcia Winans. She was the matriarch of six living generations. She is survived by much-favored nieces and nephews and her godchild, Carol Ann (Mark) Dennany. She will be missed by special friends Donna Williams, Delores Tabor, and Vicki Kellogg.

She is preceded in death by her brother, her sisters, and her son-in-law, David Winans.

She received exceptional care for the last year and a half at Traverse Manor Assisted Living in Traverse City. She loved the staff there like family, and they loved her.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning one hour prior at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. For those unable to attend, please go to www.rjfh.tv to watch the service. Burial will be in Lansing in the spring.
