Obituary

Marjorie Jean Griffin, 94, of Traverse City passed away on Wednesday, February 01, 2017.

Marjorie was born on September 20, 1922 in Ludington to William and Eva (Krogen) Anderson. She and the late Senator Robert Griffin were married on May 10, 1947 and have made their home in Traverse City since 1950.

Marjorie was the valedictorian of Ludington High School and attended Central State Teacher's College (now Central Michigan University) graduating in 1944, once again valedictorian of her class. She worked as a high school teacher in Greenville, MI as a librarian at Central Michigan University and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, Spouses of the Senate and P.E.O.

Marjorie and Senator Griffin were honored by their alma mater, Central Michigan University, through the establishment of the Robert and Marjorie Griffin Endowed Chair in American Government in 2000. The purpose is to stimulate interest and active participation in the political system and public service.

Marjorie has four children, including Paul, Richard, James and Jill; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and one sister.

Memorial donations can be made to the Gerald L. Poor School Museum at Central Michigan University.
