TRAVERSE CITY — Marjorie "Marge" Haines, 69, of Traverse City and formerly of Kingsley, passed away Friday, June 24, 2011, at her home in Traverse City, after a difficult battle with leukemia.Marjorie was born on July 8, 1941, to the late Donald and Martha (Jantz) Robinson, in Kalispell, Mont. She grew up in Glacier National Park, where her father was a park ranger. She attended Earlham College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and later moved to Michigan. She started her teaching career in Battle Creek and eventually moved to Kingsley, where she stayed home to raise her two children, Robert and Catherine. She returned to the classroom in 1983, teaching numerous fourth graders at Kingsley elementary throughout her career. She earned her master's degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University in the late '80s. In 1995 she was named Teacher of the Year by the Kingsley Chamber of Commerce.Marge was a faithful and active member of Faith Reformed Church. In addition to her children, Robert Haines, of Traverse City, and Cathie Towers, of Trenton, Marge is survived by her twin sister, Myra (Joseph) Boone, of California; her grandchildren, Taylor, Maddie and Christian Towers; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other loving family members and friends.Marge was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Paul Robinson.Visitation will be held for friends and family Friday, July 15, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, at the Faith Reformed Church, with the Rev. Randall Burgess officiating.
