TRAVERSE CITY - Marjorie Batdorff Lipp, 91, a former officer and director of the Traverse City Record Eagle and a loving mother and wife, passed away on July 16, 2016. A native of Traverse City, she was the daughter of Austin and Mable (Taylor) Batdorff.
Following graduation from Traverse City High School, she attended Ward-Belmont College for Women in Nashville, TN and later studied journalism at Michigan State University. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi of Traverse City, and a former member of the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. Marjorie was also affiliated with the Daisy Chain of the Traverse City Elks Club. A passionate advocate for animal welfare, Marjorie shared her home with her beloved cats, Brat and Baby.
She is survived by her daughter Lisa Habrecht of Traverse City, and three sons, Kurt (Bonnie) Habrecht of Traverse City, Max (Michelle) Habrecht of Leander, TX, John (Peter) Lipp of Alameda, CA.; sister in-law, Arlene Weitz; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 33 years, John Lipp; her brothers, John Batdorff, Bob (Maxine) Batdorff.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials in Marjorie's memory may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society of Traverse City.
