Marjory May Sutton Warnaar has played her last notes on her beloved piano. Born Aug. 12, 1916, in Lennon, near Flint, she spent most of her life in Flint until moving to Traverse City to be closer to family in 1998.

She graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1934 and from Alma College in 1940.

Marjory truly loved music, playing piano and organ professionally. She taught music and math at Longfellow Junior High in Flint until her retirement in 1976. She played clarinet in the Flint Symphony and in the Saginaw Symphony.

She was a devoted Christian, practicing her faith for many years at the Court Street United Methodist Church in Flint.

At Alma, she met Stuart Warnaar, the love of her life, and they were married in 1942. Together they obtained master's degrees in music at Michigan State University in the early 1950s. They then led several church choirs and the Flint Chevrolet Male Chorus.

They raised three children, Connie Mooney, of Grawn, Brad (Helen Rioux) Warnaar, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Dr. Lee Warnaar, of Grawn.

In addition to her children, Marjory Warnaar is survived by grandchildren, Bethany Warnaar, of Raleigh, N.C., Eric Warnaar, of Lansing, Ary Warnaar, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Clara Warnaar, of New York City; niece, Lyn Davidge, of Ann Arbor; and nephew, Steven Warnaar, of Lansing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart in 1976, and her sister, Gwendolyn Powrie in 1971.

The family greatly appreciated the years of excellent care at French Manor and in the last week of her life, the care of Hospice of Michigan.

A family worship service has taken place.
