TRAVERSE CITY - Mark Andrew Koval, age 56, of Buckley MI, surrounded by his family, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2017. The second of 5 children, born in Detroit, MI, to Frank and Margaret Ann (Brennan) Koval.
Mark had a brilliant mind and a deep, open heart. He loved to work, to problem solve, and help others.
Mark was a man of action, who always stopped when he saw someone in trouble.
In 1982 he married his true love Cindy Lou Rogers, who he first met at high school band camp. Mark loved snow shoeing, kayaking, camping, history, reading, cooking, building, driving and discovering new back roads and blue highways and so much more.
Never one to take things for granted, he always remained grateful for his wife, his family, his community of Traverse City and the beauty in which he lived.
While serving in the United States Army, he was awarded 2 Army Achievement Medals for exceptional leadership, foresight and judgement, and inspiring personnel to exemplary action.
