Obituary

MESICK — The Rev. Marlene Lucille (Thompson) Wermuth-Fiedler, 68, of Mesick, took her first breath in glory on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, from her home with her family at her side.Marlene was born on Nov. 18, 1942, to the late Paul and Mildred (Perrine) Thompson in Owosso. Marlene grew up in the Owosso area, attending Owosso High School. She earned her G.E.D. from Shepherd High School in 1974.On April 10, 1962, Marlene entered into marriage with the Rev. Daniel H. Wermuth Sr. Together Marlene and Daniel had five sons, the Rev. Daniel (Cynthia) Wermuth II, of Joplin, Mo., the Rev. Michael (Missy) Wermuth, of Traverse City, Jonathan Wermuth, of Traverse City, Joseph (Deanne) Wermuth, of Joplin, Mo., and the Rev. Matthew (Jasta) Wermuth, of Traverse City. Daniel and Marlene pastored Mt. Zion Family Worship Center in Traverse City. After Daniel's death in 1987 Marlene continued to pastor the church over the next seven years. She was given a lifetime designation as Pastor Emeritus and was affectionately known as "Pastor Mom." Marlene could often be found in earnest prayer for others. She had a servant's heart and loved to minister to the hurting. She would often open her home to those in need and had many unofficial "adopted" children.She was a proud mother and grandmother. Marlene especially loved spending time with her family, playing card games and going to garage sales. She was adored by her many nieces and nephews to whom she was known as Aunt Meme.Marlene entered into marriage with Klaus Gunther Fiedler on Nov. 22, 2004. Marlene and Klaus enjoyed traveling in their RV. They also ministered together to the elderly at local nursing homes.Marlene was a member of Mt. Zion Family Worship Center of Traverse City. She was the first woman Presbyter for the Michigan District Pentecostal Church of God. She was a featured speaker at various church events and also led Angel Food outreach ministries of Mt. Zion F.W.C. Marlene is survived by her husband, Klaus G. Fiedler, of Mesick; a sister, Marilyn (Benard) Merrill, of St. Helens; two brothers, the Rev. Richard (Patricia) Thompson Sr., of Montgomery, and the Rev. Duane (Kathy) Thompson, of Owosso; her five sons; four daughters-in-law; 11 grandchildren; four stepchildren; 10 step grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and loving family members and friends.Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jimmy and Don; her sister, Norma; and her first husband, the Rev. Daniel H. Wermuth Sr. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at Mt. Zion Family Worship Center at 4950 Silver Pines Road, Traverse City. Marlene's home-going service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at Faith Reformed Church, located at 1139 East Front Street in Traverse City, with Marlene's two sons, the Rev. Daniel and the Rev. Michael Wermuth officiating.
