Obituary

Martha A. Barton, 81, of Traverse City passed away on February 10, 2018 at her home. Martha was born on December 3, 1936, in Traverse City to the late Fred and Violet (Sawyer) Aiken. She married the love of her life, Charles Barton, in 1964. He preceded her in death in 1994. Over the course of her life Martha has lived in a few different places including: Traverse City, California, Africa and South Korea. Martha and her family lived in Columbia, California, for many years, where they founded Bramble Hill Christmas Tree Farm. Martha graduated from the University of Michigan with several advanced degrees, including a Masters in Fine Arts. She was a very gifted artist, particularly in painting and ceramics, as well as weaving Native American baskets. Among her other interests, Martha enjoyed traveling and most recently playing Mahjong and Upwards with her friends. Above all, her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Martha is survived by her two daughters: Juliet (Rick Mowery) Barton and Holly (Josh Fobes) Barton. Also surviving are: sister-in-law, Patricia Beaugrand; cousins Rebecca Norton, Celia Riegling, Mike Norton, and Barbara Schaafsma; as well as many caring friends.

In accordance with Martha's wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be at a later date.
