Martha Marie Glaesmer, 90 years young, of Traverse City, passed away Monday, January 12, 2015, at Munson Medical Center.
Martha was born on March 3, 1924, in Guthrie Center, Iowa to the late Roy K. and Mary E. (Marean) Shoesmith. She married Earl E. Glaesmer in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 31, 1946. Together they lovingly raised three wonderful children.
Prior to living in Traverse City for 45 years, Martha lived in Iowa and California. She was an active member of the St. Francis Church and volunteered for various church activities. She was on the State Board of Directors for Special Olympics as well as the Board of Directors for the East Traverse Federal Credit Union. She, along with her husband, served on Camp Roy-El committees for many years. Martha is majority owner and president of Votruba Leather Goods Co. She was retired from Miles Insurance Agency.
Surviving Martha are her children, Gregory Glaesmer (Karen James), Kerry (Michelle) Glaesmer, Diana (Mark) Glaesmer-Hawn, five grandchildren, Todd Glaesmer (Raquel), Jason Glaesmer, Heather Gardiner, Janelle Glaesmer, Michael Glaesmer, one great-grandchild, Kelita Glaesmer, and sisters, Aura L. Wall, and Jean (Boyd) Sparks.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl, siblings, Marjorie Shoesmith, Max Shoesmith, Marian D'Alessio and Wilma Kuster.
A memorial service will be held for Martha on Friday, January 16 at 3:00 p.m. at St Francis Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools Athletic Department or to the Grand Traverse Regional Foundation Camp Roy-El scholarship fund.
