Martin (Marty) Joseph O'Mara of Traverse City MI (formerly of Grayling, MI), age 64, passed away Sunday, January 7th, 2024 in Traverse City, MI after a 7 year battle against cancer.

Marty was the third of six children born to William (Bill) Robert and Ruth Mae (Wallace) O'Mara on October 26th, 1959 in Flint, MI. The family resided in Carsonville, MI until the early 1970s and moved to Grayling, MI where he graduated in 1977. He married Janna Marie (Millikin) O'Mara on December 31st 1979 in Grayling, MI. They relocated to Traverse City, MI in 1983 where they raised three children. Marty spent his career in residential construction and was a master of his craft. He loved sports, especially baseball; playing in high school, coaching his children, and rooting for the Detroit Tigers. He was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt, fish and spend time in Paradise, MI of the Upper Peninsula.

Marty leaves behind many cherished family and friends, including his wife of 44 years, Janna Marie (Millikin) O'Mara of Traverse City, children Ryan O'Mara of Traverse City, Rachel O'Mara of Bay City, and Shane O'Mara of Traverse City, eight grand children; Logan Young, Cavan Grant-O'Mara, Rowan Grant-O'Mara, Declan O'Mara, Aubrey O'Mara, Cheyenne Wellman, Rexford Wellman, and LaVoy Wellman, one great grandchild, Layla Young, siblings Ellen (O'Mara) and Jon Thompson, Cindy (O'Mara) and Herb Olson, Bill and Sue (Flannigan) O'Mara, Dennis O'Mara, and John and RaeAnn (Gamble) O'Mara, in-laws Molly (Millikin) and Dan VanNuck, Roslyn (Millikin) and Tim VanNuck, Jack and Missy (Madsen) Millikin and many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Ruth O'Mara, mother and father in-law Don and Betsy Millikin, sister in-law Kathy Madsen, brother in-law Donny Millikin, and God-daughter Kayla O'Mara.

There will be a time of visitation at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, MI on Sunday January 14th from 3-5 pm. Funeral service for Marty will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3801 Shore Rd. Williamsburg, MI on Monday, January 15th, 2024 at 11 am. Fr. Christopher Jarvis will be presiding.

Visitation is being hosted prior to the service at 10 am, with luncheon following the service.
