Mary Jean (Bell) Schmidt, 72, of Traverse City passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the University of Michigan Hospital. Mary Jean was born on August 8, 1943 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to the late Leonard and Lois (Freer) Bell. She was married to David Schmidt on May 1, 1965 in Bellevue, Michigan. Mary Jean was a member of the Church of Christ in Traverse City. Spending time with her family was Mary Jean's greatest joy.
Mary Jean is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, David, a son, Andrew (Susan) Schmidt of Ann Arbor, two granddaughters; Elizabeth Schmidt and Margaret Schmidt, three brothers and two sisters; Jim (Dorene) Bell, Jerry (Janice) Bell, Rose (Doug) Nelson, Betty Berk and Charlie Bell. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jerry Lee Bell.
Friends are welcome to visit with Mary Jean's family on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St. Traverse City, Michigan, 49684.
A Funeral Service honoring Mary Jean will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2014 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visiting one hour prior. Brian Paterson will officiate. Burial will follow in Leelanau Township Cemetery in Northport.
