TRAVERSE CITY — Mary J. Doherty, 81, of Traverse City, passed away Nov. 1, 2011, at the Arbor House, surrounded by her family. Mary was born on Feb. 9, 1930, in Sioux Falls, S.D., to the late George and Grace A. (Schildt) Krenos. In her spare time Mary enjoyed gardening, bird watching, crafting, reading and spending time with her family. She was also an avid follower of her grandkids' school activities. She was secretary of Greenlake Township for several years as well as a precinct worker, a position she was very proud of over the years.Mary was preceded in death by her grandson, Jack Doherty. Mary is survived by her children, Steve (Karen) Doherty, Mike (Sue) Doherty, Mark (Marjorie) Doherty and Mary Lynn (Steve) Robertson; 11 grandchildren, Greg (Azucena), Angela (Charlie) Schmidt, Rachel, Jonathan, Julie, Christopher, Lynn, Michelle, Amber and Lily; two great-grandchildren, Jameson and Quinn; brothers, Donald (Doris) and George (Nila) Krenos; plus several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, from 3 to 5 p.m., with the rosary to be prayed at 5 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mary may be directed to The American Cancer Society or St. Patrick Catholic Church.
