Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Mary Elizabeth Dunnigan, 70, of Traverse City, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.Mary was born Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1941, to Antoneitte S. and the late Carl C. Porretta in Lockport, N.Y. Attending St. Joseph's Academy and graduating from DeSales High School in 1959, Mary furthered her education at the Millard Fillmore Hospital School of Radiologic Technology, graduating in 1961. She passed her bar for the American Radiologic Technologists and held membership in the American Registry of Radiological Technologists for more than 30 years. She married Douglas W. Dunnigan, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 2011.In recent years, Mary was a member of the American Church in Paris from 1991-1994; the American Women Living in Paris; the Saginaw Garden Club; and the Traverse City Sweetwater Garden Club. She was a proud member of the Traverse City Red Hat Society, where she formed many treasured relationships. She especially cherished time spent with her family and grandchildren (who will always remember their "Grammy" for manicures and perfect pies).Mary is survived by her sons, Timothy J. (Wendy), of Syracuse, N.Y., Steven (Kelly), of Pittsford, N.Y., and Jeffrey (Sara), of Richmond, Va.; her grandchildren, Mary Margaret, Daniel Patrick, Grace Elizabeth, Joseph Douglas, Sarah Ann, Erin Jeanne and Abby Lynn; her mother, Antoneitte Porretta; sisters, Catherine (Charles) Montedoro, Linda (Henry) Sperduti, Jr. and Carla (LeRoy) Smith, all of Lockport, N.Y.; her sister-in-law, Barbara (Charles) Schrankel, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her father, Carl.Family services will be held at a later date at White Haven Memorial Park in Pittsford, N.Y.Memorial contributions in Mary's name may be directed to the Munson Health Care Regional Foundation (210 Beaumont Pl., Traverse City, MI 49684 or online www.munsonhealthcare.org ), preferably for Hospice House.Please share your memories of Mary with her family by way of the online guestbook at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com.The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
