TRAVERSE CITY - Mary Elizabeth (Hart) Cook (77) died on January 5, 2025. Mary was born on June 21, 1947, in Chicago, IL. After graduating from Homewood Flossmoor High School and Knox College, Mary taught French and Spanish at Old Orchard Junior High in Skokie, IL., a career that she dearly loved. In 1985, Mary married Howard Wendell Cook, also a teacher (Spanish). In 2003, they moved to Traverse City, Howard's home town. Mary and Howard enjoyed taking trips, visiting over 40 countries, including visits to all 7 New Wonders of the World and the Great Pyramid of Giza. Mary was an active member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, both in Illinois and in Traverse City.
Mary is survived by her husband Howard, her sister-in-law Genevieve Hart of Florida, her sister/brother-in laws Christine and Steve Hubert, and nephews Dave, Mike, and Bill Hubert and their families. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Dorothy (Wood) Hart and her brother John Hart.
