Obituary

Mary Ann (Kaatz) Click, 90, of Charlevoix, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Mary Ann was born on November 3, 1934, in Anchorville, MI, to the late Lawrence and Martha (Kujawski) Kaatz. She graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and from St. Francis School of Nursing, where she earned her RN degree. Her adventurous spirit and energetic personality blossomed in those years. She found her calling serving in the fast-paced Emergency and ICU departments, where she cared for the Detroit community with compassion and grace.

While working in the Emergency Room, Mary Ann met her future husband, John (Jack) Leo Click, who was there in connection with a case he was overseeing as a Detroit police officer. They were married on February 23, 1957, and together they raised four children — first in Detroit and later near Mary Ann's family farm in Anchorville. She eventually retired from Cottage Hospital of Grosse Pointe as the Emergency Room Head Nurse. Mary Ann and Jack enjoyed over 30 happy years in retirement living between Rapid City, Michigan and Tucson, Arizona.

Mary Ann will be remembered for her infectious laugh and sense of humor, her steady shoulder to lean on, love of adventure, keen eye for decorating, natural artistic talent, and delight in games — especially BINGO. She was the essence of a devoted wife and mother. Her husband of 59 years, Jack, passed away with her by his side nine years ago and will be waiting with open arms to welcome her home.

She is survived by her children: Thomas Click, Theresa Cusworth, Patricia Janes, and William Click. In the truest sense, Mary Ann was the embodiment of a modern mother, filled with endless love for her children. She was hardworking, a wonderful homemaker, and found her greatest joy in family life. She and Jack were a great team and will be deeply missed.

She also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Dana Click, Jenna Click, Stephanie (Chris) Hansen, Jennifer (Wes) Rothstein, Matthew (Chrissy) Cusworth, John Cusworth (Jamie Maher), Katharine Janes (Will Scheffer), Lauren Janes, and John Gregory Janes, along with five great-grandchildren: Lucy, Cooper, Isa, Reid, and Juno. Mary Ann is survived by her sister, Geraldine McLaughlin, and many other beloved family members and lifelong friends.

Those who knew and loved Mary Ann will forever cherish the joy she brought to everyone around her. She loved traveling to visit them — as long as it didn't involve flying — and especially enjoyed the beauty of New England, where she took one of her last road trips with her daughters to see many of her grandchildren.

Mary Ann's family will celebrate her life privately at a later date.
