Traverse City – Mary Ann Kennedy, 74, of Acme, passed away on October 4, 2015 at Munson Medical Center with her family by her side.
Mary Ann was born in Detroit on October 19, 1940 to the late Philip and Lillian (Jacobi) Butkovich. She attended school in Detroit and graduated in 1958 from St. Rita's Catholic School.
Mary Ann touched so many lives with her beautiful smile and her caring and loving personality. Her concern for everyone was evident through her daily reading of the bible and her prayers for friends and family. She prayed for those that she knew and those that she did not know, but she knew that her prayers would be a blessing to those in need.
She will also be remembered for her love of family. She was a great wife and mom, an amazing cook, and a wonderful homemaker. She took pride in the family home in Troy which is still owned by her son John, who continues to operate the family-owned insurance agency.
She moved to Acme in 1994 after retiring from the family insurance business to the home that she and her husband built in Wellington Farms Subdivision. She kept a very neat and welcoming home and enjoyed her retirement years. She especially loved having her children and grandchildren visit and always said that it was too quiet when they left.
She enjoyed reading, first and foremost the bible, but also enjoyed novels. She liked to play cards, do crossword puzzles, write poetry and watch baseball. She spent her winters in Florida, but always looked forward to coming back to her home in Acme.
She is survived by her husband, John, her children; John (Amy) Kennedy of Troy, Tim Kennedy of Portage, Scott (Ann) of Troy, Maryscott (Lauro) Valles of Flushing, brothers and sisters; Phil (Marge) Butkovich, Tom (Jeanette) Butkovich, Karen Fecteau, Janet (John) Marusic, Marilyn Butkovich, Bill (Anna) Butkovich, Betty Ann (Mike) Regan, Diane (Dale) Chamberlain and Toni Butkovich. Grandchildren; Elisabeth, Zoe, Jacqueline, Jack, Katherine, Jeremy, Maggie, Lauro III, Lilliana, Benjamin and Alexander.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 6-8 pm with a rosary at 7 pm at Christ the King Church, 3801 Shore Road, Acme, MI. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 11 am, with visitation beginning at 10 am, at Christ the King Church.
A memorial contribution can be made in Mary Ann's name to Christ the King Church.
