Mary M. Meyer, 81, of Traverse City, passed away August 1, 2017.
Mary was born in Flint on April 1, 1936, into the family of Gordon and Florence (Stolpin) Comfort. She attended schools in the Flint system, graduating from Flint Northern High School. She furthered her education, earning an Associate Degree from Flint Junior College, a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan, Flint Campus, and a Masters Degree from Eastern Michigan University. She taught in Elementary schools in Flint and in Big Rapids.
Mary married her husband, Allan Meyer, October 26, 1957. Mary and Allan have two children, Laura and Michael. Mary was active in local MEA activities and was president of Big Rapids MEA. Upon retirement, Mary and Allan moved to Traverse City in 1991. She volunteered as a docent at the Dennos Museum, the Michigan Club in Gulf Shores and also sang with Sweet Harmony (a choir group made up of members from all over the eastern part of the country.)
Mary is preceded in death by her brothers Phillip and Andrew Comfort. She is survived in death by her husband, Allan, her brother John, her daughter, Laura Howard, her son Michael Meyer, her granddaughters, Kara Peterson and Coral Howard, and her grandsons Cory Meyer and Alex Meyer.
A memorial at Cedar Creek Apartments will be held at some future date.
