Mary Brubaker Penney, 92, of Williamsburg, MI passed away at home in the loving care of her husband Dennis and her daughter Cindy at their beloved Everflowingwaters Campground on December 15,2022.
Mary was born in Jefferson, Iowa in 1930 to Lester & Flossy Gracy, and was the youngest of three daughters. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, and her first husband, Donald E. Brubaker from Traverse City, MI.
Mary left a legacy behind with her current husband, Dennis Penney of 35 years by establishing their campground in Williamsburg, MI along the beautiful Yuba Creek. She is survived by her husband Dennis, her children, Terrie Sue Jackson (husband Bob, Lutz FL), Cindy Lou Allen (husband Jim, Elk Rapids, MI) and son Jeffery Allen Brubaker (wife Amy, Dallas, TX). Mary's quiver is full with Grandchildren Ryan Allen, wife Rebekah, Matt Allen, wife Jennette, Rachel Craft, husband Haden, Jake Brubaker, wife Morgan & Abigale Brubaker, and her great-grandchildren: Joshua & Naomi Allen, Samuel & Elenore Allen and Lucy Mae Craft, with 2 more greats on the way.
Mary's life would be described as eventfully beautiful. From marrying her first love, and raising their children in Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, and Montana, they finally ended up in Michigan. Mary always followed her husband Don, the man with the wanderer's itch. After heartbreakingly burying him (Don Brubaker) in 1983, she once again started over. Mary returned to her love of country music and found her final dance partner, Dennis Penney. Together they ran the Penney fruit farm for over 10 years on the Old Mission Peninsula in Traverse City. After Dennis retired from the Post Office they traveled and eventually returned to Northern Michigan, establishing their campground in Williamsburg.
Dennis helped Mary fulfil her last wish and passed away peacefully in her home along the ever-flowing waters of the Yuba Creek. Mary, you have done well good and faithful servant, enter into your rest.
A time of gathering will take place December 22, 2022 from 10:00am-11:30am at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Mary's final resting place will be Oakwood Cemetery.
