We share our sad news that Mary Jo Raymond, of Honor, and Traverse City, passed away on September 13, 2025. She died at her home in Traverse City at the age of 95 surrounded by her family.
Mary Jo was born in 1930 in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Dominican High School, in Detroit, and Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University), and later earned a Master's Degree from Wayne State University. For more than 30 years, she pursued her passion for teaching English in the Oak Park and later South Redford Public Schools in Metro Detroit, where she taught and inspired countless students. With her late husband of 66 years, Richard "Jerry" Raymond, she retired in 1988 to their dream cottage on Platte Lake, in Honor, Michigan. For a number of years, they split their time between Honor and Ft. Myers, Florida. They traveled extensively, and throughout her lifetime she enjoyed reading.
She is survived by five children: Brad Raymond (Marilyn), Laurie (Podraza) Raymond, Connie (Raymond) Simon (Kimball), Rick Raymond (Holly), and Chris Raymond (Wendy); 11 grandchildren: Kelly and Tina Raymond, Adam and Jenna Podraza, Beth (Simon) Gomez, Mike, Julie Raymond and Lynn (Raymond) Shaffer, Nolan, Aiden and Olivia Raymond; and six great grandchildren: Milo Gomez, Hunter, Harry and Asher Podraza, Charlotte Shaffer and Lilly Raymond.
