Obituary

TRAVERSE CITY — Mary M. Rebman, 84, a longtime resident of Traverse City, died Sunday morning, Sept. 25, 2011, while under the loving care of the staff at Cherry Hill Haven.Born Feb. 13, 1927, in Arnold, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Wasyle and Mary (Taras) Kardibin. On July 27, 1945, in Long Beach, Calif., she married Donald A. Rebman, who preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 2002.Mary was an active member of St. Francis Catholic Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and participating in the Altar Society, along with the Variety Club. During her younger years she was very involved in PTA and worked part-time at Sabin while her children were in school. She was a gifted baker, an active gardener who liked to can the produce and also liked caring for her older home on Sixth Street. Mary will be fondly remembered for her love of family, gentle spirit and her quiet and unassuming ways. She is survived by her children, Christine (Gregory) Kerkorian, of Grand Rapids, Carl Rebman, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Donna Rebman, of Traverse City, Cindy Rebman, of Traverse City, Darlene (John) Germaine, of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Janet (Dale) Lillevold, of Wayzata, Minn., and Penny Dow, of Grand Rapids; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Rebman; and her siblings, Stella Greenawalt, Helen Reed, Stanley Kardibin, Anna Faith, Michael Kardibin, Raymond Kardibin, Russell Kardibin, Dorothy Armitage, Nellie Russell and Julia Lemon.Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be offered at St. Francis Catholic Church on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at 10 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Kenneth Stachnik will serve as the celebrant. Graveside services with burial will take place at Cleon Township Cemetery, Copemish, on Friday at 2 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation or to the Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools.
