Rokos, 84, of Traverse City, died early Wednesday morning, Nov. 17, 2010, at Munson Medical Center.Born March 15, 1926, in Old Mission, she was the daughter of the late Marshall Jerome and Helen Mildred (Peck) Pratt, descendant of one of the early pioneer families of Old Mission. On July 2, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City, she married her high school sweetheart, John W. "Jack" Rokos, who preceded her in death.Mary was very proud that her father was one of the first fruit brokers in the state of Michigan, and that he created a business that would support their families, the Pratts and Gleasons. As a true Christian, Mary was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church and Old Mission Congregational Church.Throughout the years, the fourth generation Rokos family owned and operated Progress Cleaners, a business they dedicated to serving the community of Traverse City.Mary loved nature and enjoyed long rides in the country viewing God's wonderful paintings. Her good eye for detail mixed with impeccable taste made her one to be sought out often by friends to help decorate their homes. She was a sports enthusiast and a staunch "U of M" fan. As her hobbies, she liked hunting, fishing and day trips with her husband.Mary will be fondly remembered for her great sense of humor, which was definitely her trademark. She was quick-witted and relished hearing and seeing others laugh. Mary was proud to be an identical twin to Elizabeth, and she loved to regale others with stories of their life together.Mary is survived by her loving family, John Rokos Jr., Stuart Rokos, Marshall (Cindy) Rokos and Mary E. (Ted Stegman) Rokos, all of Traverse City; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one soon to be born great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome "Jerry" Pratt and William "Bill" Pratt; and her twin sister, Elizabeth Bartling.A Celebration of Life service will be held in the spring of 2011, at which time an announcement will be made. Following cremation, burial will take place later on the Pratt family lot at Ogdensburg Cemetery, Old Mission Peninsula.Mary's last three months were spent at Orchard Creek Skilled Nursing Center, where she adored the staff and enjoyed the comfort of the facility immensely. The staff's kindness is truly recognized. The Rokos Family would also like to acknowledge and thank the tremendous staff at Munson Medical Center, who comforted Mary in her final days. Lastly, a very special appreciation, coupled with a deep gratitude, goes to Lou Fay, who served as her guardian/advocate, but most of all as her best friend. To all who knew and loved Mary, "Go Blue".
