Mary Alice Tremblay, 86, of Cedar Creek Commons in Elmwood Township passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Munson Medical Center. Mary was born on July 10, 1929 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Jasper and Florence (Shephard) Gilmore. She was married to the love of her life David "Bruce" Tremblay on October 13, 1952 in Dayton, Ohio. Bruce preceded her in death on March 11, 2008. Mary was very proud of her career as a Registered Nurse in Home Healthcare, and that her daughter had followed in her career footsteps brought her great pride. After owning Leelanau property for many years, Mary and Bruce moved to the area permanently upon retirement in 1992. Mary loved to travel. Over their years' Mary and Bruce traveled the world. They covered all of North America including all 50 states; traveled to, and cruised around all of South America. Mary traveled throughout all of Europe, the Far East, and southeastern Asia. Mary was a fantastic Bargain Hunter, finding treasures throughout her travels. Mary's family however was her true pride and joy. The recent addition of great-grandchildren had further enhanced her spirits.
Mary is survived by a daughter; Paula (James) Meyer and a son, John Tremblay both of Lake Leelanau. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Jason (Liz Kaminsky) Meyer, Matthew (Sarah) Meyer, Joseph (Erin) Meyer, and Amanda (Paul) Stowe. She was predeceased by a loving sister and three brothers.
Friends are welcome to visit with Mary's family and friends from 2:00-4:00 PM on Friday, April 1st, 2016 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684.
