---- — SPOKANE, Wash. — Mary Ellen (Miller) Wellcome died Feb. 21, 2012, in Spokane, Wash. She was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Detroit, to Kathleen McGrath Miller and Harold Miller. She met the love of her life, Bob Wellcome, and they were married in 1948. They eventually moved to Everett, Wash., where he could receive medical care for MS. Mary Ellen was office supervisor for Metropolitan Insurance Company for many years until she took early retirement to stay home and care for her husband until his death in 1979. Mary Ellen was a volunteer for many years in nursing homes, always showing a tremendous amount of compassion for all. She was always a positive person, setting wonderful examples of how we all should be. She and Bob never had children, yet they had many. Mary Ellen loved to travel and went to Hawaii, China, Israel, Rome and Germany. In addition to her husband, Bob, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Hall; father, Harold Miller; sister, Kathy Puishis; and brothers, Robert Miller and Melvin "Buddy" Miller. She is survived by a nephew, Tim Puishis (Lisa), of Seattle; nephews, Rick (Amy) and Hal (Mickie) Miller, of Traverse City; niece, Tammy (Brad) Lindemuth, of Manistique; and her special friends, Fr. Jim Dalton, of Arlington, Wash., Sr. Victoria Adlum and Janet Smasal, of Spokane, Wash. Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 29, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church (located on part of the former Miller property) in Acme. The Rev. Fr. Jim Dalton, of Arlington, Wash., will be the celebrant. Burial will be at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery in Traverse City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Christ the King Catholic Church, PO Box 95, Acme, MI 49610.
