Maureen "Kelly" Ann Castillo, lovingly known for her warm heart and radiant smile, passed away surrounded by family on November 14, 2024, in Traverse City, Michigan.
Kelly was born on August 5, 1952, in Saginaw, Michigan, to James and Valeta Allen (Bodrie). She spent her childhood surrounded by the love of her siblings: Patrick, Michael, Kathleen, Shannon - "Bosom Buddy", Mary and Melisa
Kelly met her soulmate, Fred Castillo, during their high school years, and the two married in 1971. Together, they built a life full of love and cherished memories over 50 beautiful years.
A devoted mother, Kelly raised her two children, Sarah Beth and Brett Michael, with unwavering love and dedication. Kelly worked within the Saginaw Township Community Schools, where she guided not only her children but countless others, following her own children's educational journeys with pride and encouragement.
After retirement, she and Fred followed their children to reside in Traverse City, where they created a welcoming home filled with warmth and laughter. A true family woman, she took immense joy in attending every event for her grandchildren, Shae Michael, Sophia Ann, and Matthew Brian, all residing in Traverse City.
After the loss of her son Brett in 2015, Kelly found solace in the Kensington Church community, where she deepened her faith and strengthened her connection with God. Known for her love of house projects, her joyful participation in family activities, and her unparalleled ability to bring a smile to anyone's face, Kelly leaves behind a legacy of compassion and joy.
Kelly is survived by her daughter, Sarah Beth Jacobi; Daughter in Law Melisa Castillo, her grandchildren, Shae Michael, Sophia Ann, and Matthew Brian; siblings Patrick (Kathy), Michael (Elizabeth), Kathleen (Lee), Shannon (Craig), Mary (James) and Melisa (John). In-laws Mary Lou (Andy), Rebecca (David), Laura, Paul, and Michael (Laura). Matthew's father, Brian Jacobi; and many loving nieces and nephews, who all called her "Aunt Morning". She is also missed by close friends, Dianne and Chris, who lifted her spirits in the worst times.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Valeta; her beloved husband, Fred Castillo; and her son, Brett Michael Castillo.
A celebration of Kelly's life will take place at Kensington Church on December 7th, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
