Maxine Elizabeth Ballentine, 90, of Traverse City passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015. Maxine was born on October 22, 1924 in Traverse City to the late Thomas and Nellie (Smith) Ankerson. She was married to James D. Ballentine on December 19, 1942 in Traverse City. He predeceased her on March 6, 1992. She attended Grace Episcopal Church. Maxine was a member of the Long Lake Women's Club and the Border Patrol Wives Association. Maxine was a gifted seamstress, an avid reader and enjoyed doing crafts. She loved to travel with her family and friends, she spent many winters in Texas. Above all spending time with her family is what gave Maxine the greatest joy.
Maxine is survived by two daughters; Betty (Leonard) Pawlik of George West, TX and Kathy (James) Zook of Trenton, MI; six grandchildren; Patricia (Julian) Perales, James (Rhonda) Pawlik, Rebecca Pawlik, James (Lisa) Zook, Colleen (Kris) Snyder and Elizabeth (Bret) Tirpak; 11 great-grandchildren; Justin, Jacob, Joshua, Kyleigh, Julian, Amanda, Holley, Alpha, Ethan, Miranda and Lucas. Also surviving are two brothers and a sister; Paul (Cyr) Ankerson, Jerry (Shirley) Ankerson and Jean (Bud) Zenner, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Maxine was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers; Arlene Horton, Bonnie Zenner, Merle, Donald, Leo, Kenneth and Arnold Ankerson
Friends are welcome to visit with Maxine's family on Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth Street, Traverse City.
A funeral service honoring Maxine will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015 at Grace Episcopal Church, 341 Washington St., Traverse City, with visiting one hour prior. Rev. Katheryn King will officiate.
