Maxine V. Donick, 89, of Traverse City, passed away at Munson Hospital on Monday May 25, 2015. Maxine was born in Bitely, Michigan, on March 28, 1926, the daughter of James and Gladys (Curtice) Wood. At an early age, her family moved to the Traverse City area where she grew up and spent her life.
She married the love of her life, Bob Donick, on August 21, 1943, in Traverse City and they spent more than 65 years together. Maxine always told her children that nobody loved her like Bob did.
In her youth she was very good at playing softball, so good that she and her friend, Margaret Spears (later to become her sister-in-law) were asked to play on the boy's team while attending East Bay School. Maxine taught her children the joys of playing softball as the whole neighborhood would play softball games in the front yard.
After Maxine and Bob retired, they enjoyed traveling, and spending winters in Arizona and Alabama. Maxine was a whiz using her pedal singer sewing machine to make school clothes for her children. She was a meticulous house maker, making sure her house was always clean and neat.
Her greatest joy was her family, being so proud of her children and their spouses, grandchildren and their spouses and great-grandchildren, who will greatly miss her.
Maxine is survived by her daughters, Sherry Horn and Susan Graham; son, Robert V. "Bob" Donick and his wife Debbie; grandchildren, Jim and Tammy Horn, Mark and Minako Horn, Chris and Kristi Clark, Jason and Dana Clark, Melissa (Donick) and Nate Rousse, Mitchell and Ali Donick, and Mallory Donick; great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Austin, Kaitlyn and Bridgette Horn, Allyson and Megan Clark, Bailey and Hannah Clark, Grady and Murphy Rousse, Joseph (Joey) Robert Donick and Logan Brosch. Maxine is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; two infant daughters; two sisters; five brothers and two son-in-laws.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 29, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 30 at 11:00 a.m. at the Traverse Bay United Methodist Church, with visitation held one hour prior. Pastor Jane Lippert will be officiating.
