Maxine M. Hodges

November 7, 1928 — March 21, 2023

Maxine Marie Hodges, 94, of Williamsburg, Michigan, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2023. The daughter of Rev. John R. and Helen (Justesen) Hoesman, she was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, on November 7, 1928. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 1950 and then taught elementary school. A year later, she married the love of her life, Robert. Eventually moving to Dallas, Texas in 1960, Maxine and Bob raised four boys.

Maxine's life was dedicated to faith, family, and friends. Her warm smile, hearty laughter, and caring nature were remembered by all who knew her. An avid music lover, she was a longtime choir member at First Presbyterian Church of Dallas, played in the handbell choir, and could often be heard playing hymns on the piano. She also enjoyed travel, reading, book clubs, attending classical music concerts, and spending time with her grandchildren. After the passing of her husband, she moved to Williamsburg, Michigan in 2003 to be near her grandchildren.

Despite being a busy wife and mother, Maxine found time for service, which was very important to her. She volunteered at local hospitals, Meals on Wheels, and served as a member and leader on many church committees. She was a longtime member of PEO and PTA. It was not uncommon to see her cooking a homemade meal to deliver to a family in need.

Maxine was preceded in death by husband Robert, son Jonathan, brother Jonathan Hoesman, and sisters Helen Street and Carol Schulden. She is survived by son Robert Jr. of Lansing, Michigan; son Steven (Cynthia) of Austin, Texas; son David of Lubbock, Texas; sister Alice Murphy of Grand Blanc, Michigan; and grandchildren Cameron and Madeline Hodges.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the caring staff at Cherry Hill Haven assisted living center and Hospice of Michigan, who were invaluable to Maxine's comfort and care.

Maxine's memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church in Traverse City in June, 10, 2023 at 1:00pm.
