Maxine Mary King, age 95, a longtime resident of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, January 9, 2026.
Maxine was born on July 30, 1930, in Arcadia, Michigan, to the late Joseph and Laura (Overhault) Burns. She was born one of 10 children. Maxine married the love of her life, the late Gene L. King, on August 30, 1986.
In 1983, Maxine and her family moved to Traverse City from Frankfurt. She enjoyed gardening, photography, walking, and bike riding. She was also a proud member of the Northwestern Michigan Antique and Auto Club of America.
Maxine will be remembered as a believer of Heaven, a good friend, a loving mother, and a devoted wife. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Maxine is survived by her children, Sandra (David) Hamer, Jean Allen, Jane (Rick) Pomeroy, Darlene (Pete) Reisterer; along with many grandchildren and even more great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Gene, her sons, Gary and Tom (Carol) Holtrey; all of her siblings, son-in-law Michael Allen, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Honoring Maxine's wishes, no public funeral service will be held. Burial has taken place next to her beloved husband at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
