Maxine Laverne Kirt, 95, of Jenison and formerly of Traverse City, passed away Monday, December 23, 2019 at American Home - Sandalwood in Jenison just shy of her 96th birthday.
Maxine was born on Tuesday, January 1, 1924 to the late Christian and Hazel (Kropp) Wichern in Cedar. She was a 1942 graduate of Leland High School. On Saturday, December 29, 1945 in Leland, she married Carlos Ferdinand Kirt.
Maxine lived in the area her entire life. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church and belonged to the Dorcas Society. Maxine enjoyed baking, visiting shut-ins from church, birdwatching, garage sales, the Detroit Tigers, U of M football and basketball, and being outdoors. She had a wonderful spirit, an enthusiastic outlook on life, and was known to throw a shoe out the kitchen window now and then to knock the squirrels from her birdfeeders.
Survivors include her children, Karen (Rick) Hubbard of Holland, Jean Kubesh and Mary (Gregory) Horn, all of Traverse City; a daughter in law, Linda Kirt of Florida and New York, grandchildren, Heather (Uche) Ihiasota of Naperville IL, Matthew (Tina) Hubbard of Sugar Grove, IL, Ben Kubesh of Florida and Jill Kubesh of Traverse City, Austin (Laura) Kirt of Pennsylvania and Trevor Kirt of California, great grandchildren Savannah, Abby, Luna, Maya and Arley; sisters Betty Olsen of Traverse City and Ramona Duncan of Bloomington, MN and many nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Michael Kirt.
A memorial service celebrating Maxine's life will take place Saturday, January 4 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City, with Pastor Michael Goers officiating. Visitation will take place at the church one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
